Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.825.51511
What subscription do you have?
Pro 20x
What platform is your computer?
windows 10 pro
What issue are you seeing?
When I search for something, web-based/ChatGPT conversations appear almost immediately, but searching the local Codex chats is extremely slow. The search UI will sit on “Loading chats…” for a very long time, and even after waiting, it often returns very few local results.
The other frustrating behavior is that the local chat search stops and disappears if I navigate away from the Codex app. I have to keep the search window focused and wait for it to finish to get the (few) local results that don't appear to be exhaustive.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Open chat search and enter a query.
- Matching ChatGPT/cloud conversations appear almost immediately.
- The local Codex section continues showing “Loading chats…”.
- Local results can take a very long time to appear and often seem incomplete.
- If I navigate away while local chats are still loading, the search appears to stop/cancel rather than continuing.
- Returning to search requires waiting/searching again.
What is the expected behavior?

Research direction
Reproduce on Windows using the six steps in the report, then trace the desktop search flow for local chats and what happens when the app loses focus. Check how local results are loaded and cancelled; done means local results are complete and the search continues when navigating away.
