Codex misinterpret instruction and used the banked reset without permission and authorization, while my usage was full.

Description

Based on the Codex guidance, a banked reset must be applied by you from Settings → Usage and confirmed, and once a banked reset is consumed (or expires) it can’t be restored or reissued.

I’ve captured your bug report details exactly as you described:

  • Codex Desktop 26.825.51511 (Released Aug 30, 2026)
  • Aug 30, 2026 09:43 (GMT+8)
  • Typed text: “usage reset. Resume the Goal” (meant “usage has been reset”)
  • Observed behavior: Codex redeemed the banked reset without you opening Settings → Usage or seeing a confirmation prompt; Codex later acknowledged misreading it
  • Session ID: 01a036e4-8088-72b1-9e94-ec0451612707

Research direction

Start with the Settings → Usage flow and reproduce the reported Codex Desktop behavior using the text “usage reset. Resume the Goal.” Compare the observed automatic redemption with the stated requirement for explicit confirmation; done means the banked reset is not consumed without that user authorization.
