Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.825.31414
What subscription do you have?
Plus
What platform is your computer?
Windows 11 x64
What issue are you seeing?
After updating ChatGPT/Codex to version 26.825.31414, the Pet feature stopped working.
This affects both built-in Pets and custom imported Pets.
The Pets are still visible, but:
- Animations are completely frozen
- Pets no longer move
- Pets cannot be interacted with
- Dragging/interactions do not work
- After closing Codex, the Pet can remain visible as a frozen image on the desktop
The Pet feature worked normally before the recent update.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Open ChatGPT/Codex on Windows 11.
- Enable any built-in Pet or a custom imported Pet.
- Observe that the Pet appears on the screen.
- Try to interact with or move the Pet.
- The Pet remains completely frozen and does not respond.
- Switch to another built-in Pet.
- The same issue occurs.
- Restart Codex.
- The issue still occurs.
- Restart Windows.
- The issue still occurs.
The problem started immediately after updating to version 26.825.31414.
What is the expected behavior?
Pets should animate normally, move, and respond to user interactions as they did before the update.
Built-in Pets and custom Pets should remain fully interactive on the desktop.
Additional information
App version: 26.825.31414
Release date shown in About: 2026-08-28
OS: Windows 11
Subscription: ChatGPT Plus
This appears to be a regression introduced by a recent update.
I tested both built-in Pets and custom imported Pets, and all of them show the same behavior.
Restarting Codex and restarting Windows did not resolve the issue.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the failure in Codex 26.825.31414 on Windows 11 with both built-in and imported Pets, including after restarting the app and Windows. Done means Pets animate, move, respond to dragging and interaction, and do not remain as a frozen image after Codex closes.
