Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.818.5229.0
What subscription do you have?
ChatGPT Plus
What platform is your computer?
Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64
What issue are you seeing?
Remote Control cannot be enabled in the ChatGPT/Codex desktop app on Windows.
Steps to reproduce
- Open the ChatGPT desktop app.
- Go to Settings > Connections.
- Select “Control this PC”.
- Click “Allow”.
Actual result
Remote Control fails before displaying the mobile pairing QR code.
The error messages observed across multiple attempts include:
- “无法启用远程控制。请确保仅有一个 ChatGPT 实例在运行”
(“Unable to enable Remote Control. Make sure only one ChatGPT instance is running.”) - “无法检查安全要求。请重试”
(“Unable to check security requirements. Please try again.”) - “无法启用远程控制。请重试”
(“Unable to enable Remote Control. Please try again.”)
Only one top-level ChatGPT app instance/window was running when the error occurred. The additional processes visible in Task Manager appear to be normal helper processes.
I have already tried:
- Completely closing and restarting the app
- Restarting Windows
- Resetting the ChatGPT app through Windows Settings
- Reinstalling the latest x64 MSIX package
- Confirming that no Windows system proxy is configured
The problem still occurs.
Submitting feedback from inside the app also failed with the message:
“反馈上传未成功”
(“Feedback upload was unsuccessful.”)
Feedback ID:
01a02d3d-ce43-77f0-ba58-67d414ef6bf6
Expected result
Remote Control should be enabled successfully and the app should display the QR code used to connect a mobile device.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
What is the expected behavior?

Research direction
Start with the Windows desktop app flow at Settings > Connections > Control this PC > Allow, and trace the failure before the mobile pairing QR code appears. Investigate the related feedback upload failure using the provided Feedback ID; done means Remote Control enables and displays the QR code, while in-app feedback uploads successfully.
