What version of the IDE extension are you using?

26.818.41509

What subscription do you have?

GPT Plus

Which IDE are you using?

VS Code

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64

What issue are you seeing?

In my VS Code Codex extension, the reasoning effort options are not displaying properly:

  1. The "Max" reasoning level option is missing from the reasoning selector menu next to the chat input box.
  2. The Reasoning Effort GUI setting is completely missing from the Configuration panel (only Open config.toml is visible).

What steps can reproduce the bug?
  1. Open the chat panel and click the model/reasoning selector menu next to the chat input box.
-> Observe that the "Max" reasoning effort level is not present in the list.
  2. Go to the Codex settings panel and navigate to the Configuration tab.
-> Observe that there are no GUI settings/dropdowns for Reasoning Effort.
What is the expected behavior?

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue in the VS Code Codex chat panel and Configuration tab on Windows with the reported extension version. Trace the reasoning selector and Configuration UI entry points; done means the Max option appears in the selector and a Reasoning Effort GUI setting is available in Configuration.
