Description

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.818.3698.0

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Pro

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64 (Windows 11 Home 25H2, OS Build 26200.9168)

What issue are you seeing?

The ChatGPT/Codex desktop application opens only as a blank white window. Sometimes the OpenAI logo appears briefly, but the interface never loads.

The application worked briefly after starting the computer. After opening a recent conversation, the window became blank and has remained blank during every subsequent launch.

I have already completed the following troubleshooting:

  • Restarted Windows several times
  • Used Repair and Reset in Windows application settings
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the application from Microsoft Store
  • Confirmed that no newer Microsoft Store update is available
  • Reinstalled Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime
  • Cleared and recreated the application LocalCache
  • Tested with a completely fresh temporary user-data directory
  • Launched the application with --disable-gpu
  • Temporarily paused Kaspersky protection and closed Kaspersky VPN
  • Tested another internet connection/mobile hotspot
  • Confirmed that WinHTTP uses direct access with no proxy
  • Confirmed that the same account works correctly in Chrome

Windows Error Reporting recorded a critical OpenAI.Codex application failure:
P1: OpenAI.Codex_26.818.3698.0_x64__2p2nqsd0c76g0
P2: praid:App
P3: 151.0.7922.170

The problem persists after a full reset, reinstall, fresh profile, and GPU-disabled launch. Please advise whether this is a known compatibility issue and whether a fix or workaround is available.

What steps can reproduce the bug?
  1. Start Windows 11 normally.
  2. Launch the ChatGPT/Codex desktop application.
  3. The application opens as a blank white window and the interface does not load.
  4. Close the application completely and launch it again.
  5. The blank white window appears during every launch.

The issue originally started after opening a recent conversation. No session ID is available because the application interface does not load.

What is the expected behavior?

The application should load the normal ChatGPT/Codex interface, display the home screen and conversation list, and allow conversations to be opened without showing a blank white window.

Research direction

No source file, test, or entry point is named in the report. Start by reproducing the blank window on Windows 11 with version 26.818.3698.0 and compare startup behavior with the fresh profile, WebView2, and --disable-gpu checks; done means the interface loads reliably or a confirmed workaround is identified.
