Title:
[Codex app] Profile “Most used plugins” significantly undercounts ImageGen usage

Environment:

  • OS: Windows
  • Codex app version: 26.810.6296.0
  • Date observed: 2026-08-15
  • Same ChatGPT account used across the affected projects

Actual behavior:
Profile > Activity > Most used plugins shows:
$imagegen — 1 run

However, I have used image generation repeatedly across multiple projects and tasks. Local task history and generated-image cache show substantially more ImageGen activity than one run.

Expected behavior:
The displayed count should accurately reflect recognized ImageGen/skill usage, or the UI should clearly explain:

  1. whether it counts skill invocations, tool calls, tasks, or generated images;
  2. the time range;
  3. whether historical or legacy ImageGen calls are included;
  4. whether counts are separated by account or workspace.

Additional findings:

  • The UI mixes skills prefixed with “$” and plugins prefixed with “@” under “Most used plugins”.
  • Restarting the app / waiting for the profile cache to refresh does not appear to reconcile the historical usage. [Keep this line only if confirmed.]

Research direction

Start in the Codex app at Profile > Activity > Most used plugins on Windows, then compare the displayed ImageGen count with the local task history and generated-image cache described in the report. Done means establishing what is counted, the time range and account or workspace scope, and either correcting the count or documenting those rules in the UI.
