ChatGPT Project files fail to sync with the macOS desktop app after update

After updating the ChatGPT desktop app on my Mac, all newly uploaded ChatGPT Project files stopped syncing with Codex tasks.

Exact error:

“1 project file could not be synced; the task may have incomplete context”

Environment:

ChatGPT desktop app: version 26.810.52044, build 6662

macOS: 26.5.2, build 25F84

Subscription: ChatGPT Pro

I upgraded to Pro around the same time as the application update, although the problem appeared after the app update.

Expected behavior:

Files uploaded as sources to a ChatGPT Project should be available as project context in Codex desktop tasks.

Actual behavior:

The files work normally and can be accessed in ChatGPT Web, but the macOS desktop app cannot sync them to Codex. The local project mirror is created, but its sources folder remains empty, and AGENTS.md reports that one project source could not be synced.

The issue affects:

Existing ChatGPT Projects

Completely new ChatGPT Projects

Markdown files

CSV files

Even a new project containing only one small CSV file

Troubleshooting already completed:

Signed out of ChatGPT and Codex and signed back in

Restarted the Mac

Reinstalled the latest desktop application

Tested using a completely new macOS user account

Granted Full Disk Access temporarily

Tested another internet connection using a mobile hotspot

None of these steps changed the behavior. ChatGPT Web continues to access the same files normally.

Because the issue also occurs in a new macOS user account after reinstalling the application, it does not appear to be caused by macOS file permissions or corrupted local settings.

Please investigate:

Whether my account’s Project Sources or Codex entitlements were provisioned incorrectly after upgrading to ChatGPT Pro.

Whether desktop app version 26.810.52044 has a regression affecting synchronization of ChatGPT Project files.

Whether the failed Project Sources synchronization can be reset or repaired on the server side for my account.

Please escalate this to the ChatGPT/Codex desktop engineering team. Reinstalling, signing in again, changing networks, and changing macOS permissions have already been tested.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

1. Open ChatGPT Web and create a new ChatGPT Project.
2. Upload a small CSV or Markdown file to the project sources.
3. Confirm that the file is successfully uploaded and accessible in ChatGPT Web.
4. Open the same project in the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS.
5. Create a new Codex task inside that project.
6. The task starts with the warning: “1 project file could not be synced; the task may have incomplete context.”
7. The uploaded file is not available to the Codex task.

The issue reproduces every time with both new and existing projects and with different file types.

Reproduce the issue by creating a ChatGPT Project with a small CSV or Markdown source in ChatGPT Web, then opening it in the macOS desktop app and starting a Codex task. Check the project mirror, its sources folder, and the AGENTS.md warning. Done means project files sync into the Codex task without the incomplete-context warning.
