Description

What version of the Codex App are you using?

ChatGPT/Codex for macOS 26.803.41515

What subscription do you have?

Not relevant to this UI behavior.

What platform is your computer?

macOS 15.7.3, Apple silicon (arm64)

What issue are you seeing?

After moving a project folder/group itself from the Projects section to Pinned, the folder cannot be moved back to Projects. It remains permanently under Pinned in the sidebar.

This report is specifically about a project folder/group, not a task or chat thread.

What steps can reproduce the bug?
  1. Open Codex on macOS.
  2. Choose any project folder listed under Projects.
  3. Move the project folder to Pinned.
  4. Try to move or drag the same folder back to Projects.
  5. Observe that the folder remains under Pinned.
What is the expected behavior?

The project folder should be movable back to the Projects section. Alternatively, Codex should provide a clear Unpin action that returns the project folder there.

What is the actual behavior?

The project folder stays under Pinned and cannot be moved back to Projects.

The issue reproduces consistently on the affected Mac.

I searched open and closed issues using combinations of pinned project, unpin project, project folder, Pinned, Projects, drag, and move back. The closest reports are related but not duplicates:

  • #35867 concerns pinning a project task; unpinning successfully restores it.
  • #34139 concerns an unpinned thread becoming hidden in the “By project” sidebar.
  • #35090 concerns thread ordering after pin/unpin.
  • #38259 concerns project-folder sorting controls, not inability to remove a project from Pinned.

Research direction

No source files or tests are named. First reproduce the project-folder move on macOS, then inspect the sidebar's project-folder pin and unpin handling; done means a folder moved from Projects to Pinned can return to Projects or has a clear Unpin action.
