Description

Once we move out of the stabilization phase of dune package management development and into its integration phase, we anticipate wider use. Accordingly, we will need to harden and mature the binary distribution to ensure it is robust, secure, covers all Tier-1 platforms, and (we hope) documented as an installation option on official OCaml onboarding material.

This work will include, at least

  • Addressing known defects and shortcomings reported in the issues
  • Providing binaries for all Tier-1 platforms
  • Paying down tech dept accrued in the project's design and infrastructure
  • Performing a security audit

Research direction

Start by reviewing the known defects and shortcomings in the linked binary-distribution issues, then map the Tier-1 platform coverage and the project's design and infrastructure debt. The work is done when the distribution is robust and secure, covers all Tier-1 platforms, and has an installation path documented in official OCaml onboarding material.
