Expected Behavior
VMWare Workstation uses a process different to its UI to output sound. I would like to capture audio from VMWARE-VMX.EXE.
Current Behavior
vmware-vmx.exe does not appear in the list for applications to capture audio from.
Steps to Reproduce
- Start a virtual machine in VMWare Workstation (not sure if it matters, but the guest OS was Windows XP)
- Add a window capture source, pointed to VMWARE.EXE
- Add an application audio capture source, VMWARE-VMX.EXE does not appear in the list. Using VMWARE.EXE instead does not produce any audio at all.
Anything else we should know?

Research direction
Start by reproducing the issue on Windows 11 with VMware Workstation, following the listed steps and reviewing the linked OBS log. Investigate the application audio capture source's process selection behavior for the windowless VMWARE-VMX.EXE process. Done means the process appears as a selectable target and its audio is captured.
