Expected Behavior
I expected an SRT stream in OBS (as 'listener') to resume smoothly after a reconnection without freezing. The stream should continue playing without interruption or delay once the connection is re-established after a connection drop.
Current Behavior
After a reconnection, the SRT stream in OBS plays for a few seconds and then freezes. This issue occurs consistently, causing the stream to become unresponsive shortly after the connection is re-established.
The stream, that OBS shows for a few seconds after reconnecting, seems to be kind of a part of a cached video - I'm not sure if this is always the case, but I recognized this when a SRT source which has a clock on its output showed up with the time from before the connection drop.
Example: Connection Drop at 12:34 AM, reconnect at 12:40 AM, stream shows up with a few seconds of video from 12:34 AM
It takes a few minutes for OBS to recognize that the audio of the source is lagging ("...audio is lagging (over by 121196.59 ms) at max audio buffering...") and then restarts the output of the SRT source.
After that, the SRT source is playing fine until the next connection drop.
Steps to Reproduce
- Start streaming with an SRT encoder configured as caller, sending to OBS configured as listener.
- Interrupt the network connection to simulate a disconnect.
- Restore the network connection to allow the SRT stream to reconnect.
- Observe the stream in OBS: it plays for a few seconds and then freezes.
Anything else we should know?
- Tested with different network buffer sizes (1MB and 2MB) in OBS, but the issue persists
- The encoder logs indicate no errors during the reconnect process.

Research direction
Start with the linked OBS log and reproduce the issue using an SRT caller and OBS listener, following the listed network interruption and reconnection steps. Done means the SRT stream resumes normally after reconnecting without freezing, cached playback, or prolonged audio lag.
