Expected Behavior

We are encountering a persistent issue with the SRT media source in OBS Studio, where the latency starts and stays consistently high and requires a manual reset (hiding and unhiding the source) to bring it back down to an acceptable level (around 1 second). This behaviour occurs even though the SRT latency is configured at 500ms.

The SRT media source should start with a consistent and acceptable latency level without requiring manual intervention.

Current Behavior

• The latency remains consistently high during the transmission.
• Manual resetting (hiding and unhiding the source) is required multiple times to attempt to reduce the latency back to around 1 second.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Add an SRT media source with a configured latency of 500ms.
2. Observe the latency of the SRT source.
3. Note the latency consistently remains high and requires a manual reset (hide/unhide) to attempt to reduce it. Often the latency will be as high as 4 seconds.

Anything else we should know?

This issue has been confirmed in OBS Studio version 29.1.3 and persists in newer versions.
The problem significantly affects our production environment, leading to interruptions and delays.
A complete reset (hide/unhide) of the media source is required to bring the latency back to an acceptable level. (around 1 second glass to glass)

Start by reviewing the OBS Studio log at https://obsproject.com/logs/ijWUU9eH8XCHN1iY and the SRT media source behavior described in the reproduction steps. Compare startup latency at the configured 500ms setting with latency after hiding and unhiding the source. Done means the source starts and remains near the expected latency without manual resets.
