Description

For #1399, and because it can be nice to do isobands. Depends on https://github.com/d3/d3-contour/issues/71

Notes:

  • Isobands are great for fill (and necessary for variable fillOpacity), but not so much for stroke, since they would repeat every path (but the outermost one).
  • It's very common to set a constant fillOpacity and constant fill on usual (layered) contours.

Research direction

Start by reading issue #1399 and the linked d3-contour issue 71 to understand the requested isoband support and its dependency. Review the existing contour and density behavior, then define completion around supporting filled isobands while accounting for the stated stroke and fillOpacity limitations.
