Description
Description of the Issue
- Love all the different languages available in Notepad++ but I find it quite awkward to select one I like. I realize they have probably grouped it alphabetically to shorten the list. However sometime when I open a type of file that there is no listing for (or I cannot find the listing for it) then it would be handy to scroll through the different languages quickly to find one that best matches the file you are looking at.
Currently I am looking at ULS log files on a SharePoint Server and must have spent around 30 minutes trying to find the most suitable match that I just have to twig slightly to create my own Language to enable me to read ULS logs more easily
-
Also, whilst on this topic, it would be handy if once you have selected a language, it shows a tick next to the language you have selected, or highlights it so that you know which one to select next.
-
And finally, I am sure I used to be able to do this, but I cannot seem to find a way to save one of the existing formats as a language that I can then edit slightly more to look how I need it to. S
Steps to Reproduce the Issue
Open file
Select Language and try and scroll through all the different languages one at a time to see what your file looks like in a different language
Expected Behavior
-
A drop down list (like fonts in MS WORD) that allows you to quickly scroll through languages until you find one you like.
-
Show a tick or highlight the currently selected language
-
All you to select an existing language as a template in "Define your own Language"
Actual Behavior
-
You have to select each one at a time, then open the drop down menu again
-
Then you have to wonder which one you had last selected
-
There appears to be no option to modify an existing language and save it as your own.

Research direction
Start by reviewing the Language menu and the Define your own Language dialog described in the issue. Compare the current language-selection workflow with the requested scrolling, selected-language indicator, and existing-language template behavior. Done means the three requested interactions work consistently for language selection and customization.
