Recent files not being updated

I encountered the recent "lost session" issue after restarting NP++.

So I manually opened the 10 or 12 files that I always keep open.

Today, after getting the 8.2.1 update that fixed the lost session issue, none of the 10 or 12 files that I opened yesterday are in the recent file list.

No source file or test is named. Start by reproducing the recent-file behavior on Notepad++ v8.2.1 using the Windows 10 configuration described, then trace the handling of manually opened files and recent-file updates. Done means those files appear in the recent file list after being opened and remain available after restarting.
