Research direction

The issue names SQLite, local/sessionStorage, Fast API, and two-byte strings but mentions no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the relevant storage benchmarks or implementations and clarify what “Fast API” refers to. Done requires a defined performance target and benchmark evidence for the proposed changes.
