Description
To see this add a gpio in or out node to the flow and select a pin to use. Then close the dialog and reopen it, the selected pin is not shown for a number of pins. If deployed then it does work, but the pin continues not to be shown in the dialog. See this forum post where @jbudd has documented the pins that do and don't show with the GPIO In node.
This has been reported a couple of times on the forum recently, but I am seeing it with NR 4.0.8 and 3.1.11, and the gpio node has not been updated for two years, so it is odd that the problem has only recently come to light. I am seeing it on several different models of pi and OS version.

Research direction
Reproduce the issue by adding a GPIO in or out node, selecting pins, closing and reopening the dialog, and comparing the displayed selection with the forum post's documented pin list. Confirm the behavior across the Node-RED and Raspberry Pi versions described; done means every supported selected pin is shown correctly after reopening while deployment still works.
