Proposed revision in the definition of MSY

The current definition of "catch" in the tool is:

"A maximum level of yield that can be continuously taken from an exploited stock under average environmental conditions. It can be defined given biological parameters (e.g., natural mortality and stock productivity) or using proxies (e.g., the maximum yield at 40% of unfished biomass). Units depend on units of catches."

The proposed revision would modify the definition to integrate the definition in National Standards 1 with additional information contained in the current definition:

"The largest long-term average catch or yield that can be taken from a stock or stock complex under prevailing ecological, environmental conditions, and fishery technological characteristics (e.g., gear selectivity) and the distribution of catch among fleets. It can be defined using biological parameters (e.g., natural mortality and stock productivity) or proxies (e.g., the maximum yield at 40% of unfished biomass). Units depend on the units used for the catch."

The definition will be revised in the tool pending any user discussion on this issue.
