Description
Making nps honor .gitignore with a config option to explicitly include dirs/patterns would be a nice QoL improvement.
flake8 does not support this, but some linters like ruff have an option to respect .gitignore.

Research direction
Start by locating nps's file-discovery and configuration entry points, then trace how it selects paths for linting. Add a configuration option for honoring .gitignore while allowing explicit directories or patterns to be included, and verify that ignored paths and explicit inclusions behave as described.
