Description

Description of feature

A la taxpasta, it might be nice to try to leverage some of the tools out there that attempt to translate different functional annotation outputs to a common form. This would allow folks to compare results from multiple different tools. Might be a bit of a stretch for the hackathon, but would be nice to include eventually. Might require that the database of choice includes annotation in some commonly accepted format and/or a key to such a format. I know Humann generally supports this, but the effort require to apply it to all supported tools might be non-trivial.

Research direction

No files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by reviewing the supported functional annotation tools and the database format used by the pipeline, then investigate taxpasta and HUMAnN for possible common representations. Done would mean a defined approach for merging or renaming annotations across supported tools and a way to compare their results.
