Description

Steps to reproduce

Hello. I am using the latest Alpha build on my Xiaomi 14T Pro and found two critical accessibility issues:

  1. TalkBack Focus Issue: When a new message is received, TalkBack does not see it. I have to exit and re-enter the chat to hear the latest message. It seems like the Accessibility Live Region is not updating.
  2. Recording Loopback: When recording a voice message, TalkBack's focus sounds (clicks) are recorded into the audio. This creates constant noise in the background of the voice message.
    Environment:
  • Device: Xiaomi 14T Pro
  • OS: Android 16
  • App Version: Latest Alpha
Please fix these issues to ensure clear communication. Thanks!
Expected behaviour
  1. TalkBack should detect and focus on new incoming messages while scrolling the chat, without needing to exit and re-enter.
  2. System accessibility sounds (TalkBack focus clicks) should be suppressed during voice recording to keep the audio clean.
Actual behaviour
  1. TalkBack does not "see" new incoming messages in the list while scrolling. It feels like the accessibility tree is frozen. I have to exit the chat and enter again to make TalkBack detect the new content.
  2. During voice recording, TalkBack's focus sounds (clicks) are captured by the microphone and included in the audio message, creating significant noise.

Research direction

Start by reproducing both issues in the Android Alpha build with TalkBack on Android 16: inspect how incoming chat messages update accessibility content and how voice recording captures system accessibility sounds. Done means new messages are announced without leaving the chat and recorded voice messages contain no TalkBack focus clicks; the issue provides no files or tests to target.
