Steps to reproduce

  1. Join a call
  2. A participant turns on their camera with a light background
Expected behaviour

The shadows are strong enough so that the text is visible, all white elements have the same shading.

Actual behaviour

The shading is inconsistent and the drop shadow is not strong enough. Additionally, the shadow clips.

Image

Stacked shadows/an outline would look nicer than just making the existing one stronger, but if it is not ideal for performance reasons, making it stronger would still be better.

Research direction

Reproduce the issue by joining a call and having a participant enable their camera against a light background. Locate the participant video UI styling and compare the shadow strength, consistency, and clipping with the attached image. Done means text and white elements remain readable with consistent, unclipped shading.
