Description

user_external app is lacking proper support by a maintainer. Users who are relying on this app had minor issues on upgrade NC29->NC30 and now have major issues upgrading NC30->NC31, see https://github.com/nextcloud/user_external/pull/273

Since this is a security related app, I cannot take responsibility creating pull requests, I'm too much of a newbie for such stuff.

Please consider integrating this app into server core to make sure this functionality is safe and secure and will be available and compatible in future releases.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the user_external app and the referenced user_external pull request #273, focusing on the NC29→NC30 and NC30→NC31 upgrade issues described here. Done would require an agreed integration plan and a secure, compatible implementation in server core, but this issue does not identify files or tests to begin with.
