More and more users are making use of External Storage combined with their mobile devices.
However, for most users creating External Storages themselves isn't intuitive enough.
Adding a Wizard which would be invoked when you click the "New" button could greatly improve that.
Describe the solution you'd like
As stated above I think the wizard should be invoked when clicking the "New" button (just like with creating a new folder).
This could already be available in the main page of the files app or only when in the External Storage section.
The Wizard should then guide the user through the consecutive fields required to successfully create the External Storage.
Of course the wizard should only offer available types.
Best case scenario is the wizard explaines the functionality of each field briefly and shows short examples of possible values.
Although the part of the wizard guiding the user through the process might need to be provided by the developers of the apps that provide specific types of external storage support.
Worst case but an OK starting point (also easiest way of at least guiding the user in the right direction) is that the "New" button takes you directly to the external Storages part of the settings.
Describe alternatives you've considered
The alternative is basically explaing the current procedure time and again.
We have created a manual but nobody reads a manual for an action that is only executed once every couple of monhts (in our case)
Additional context
Designers use external storages to be able to sketch and annotate .pdf files on their tablets, phones and/or convertible laptops thereby saving the modifications directly to the server where the drafters pick them up and process them.
Because the list of projects the designers (and drafters) work on changes quite frequently, it would be great if managing/creating External Storages (in our case Windows SMB storage) would facilitate not so tech savvy users as well.

Research direction
Start by tracing the existing External Storage settings flow and the New action in the files app, both of which are identified as possible integration points. A completed change would guide users through creating an available external-storage type, with field explanations and examples, or at minimum take them directly to the relevant settings.
