Description

We currently have inconsistent behaviour if we show the status bar or not, we only show it by default in Calc.

I think it makes sense to do some comparison here and pick what most users are used to on competitor (market leading) platforms. Zooming might for example also deserve a more prominent place. Or the status bar needs some revisiting to be less crowded (just from comparing with ms excel)

We should discuss this again

  • Research how other solutions are showing the status bar
    • Google docs
    • MS Office desktop
    • MS Office online
    • Libreoffice
    • Onlyoffice
    • Apple Pages, Numbers, Keynote
  • Evaluate current content of the status bar, is everything there useful, can it be simplified?

Research direction

No source files or tests are named. Start by comparing status-bar behavior in Google Docs, MS Office desktop and online, LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, and Apple iWork as listed in the checklist, then review the current status-bar contents. Done means the comparison and evaluation produce an agreed direction for the default state and content.
