Can't dismiss error messages

Description
I have gotten two different error messages from notes-ios. Big red blobs. With an X, which I take to be a widget to dismiss the error message. Tapping the X does nothing. I see no other way to dismiss the error message. Leaving the app and resetting it in the task manager do nothing. The remedy appears to be uninstalling the app, which is a bit drastic.
