Description

Steps to reproduce
  1. Get an email from a contact which has a photo set in contacts
  2. Check that mail in the Dashboard and in Mail
Expected behavior

The avatar shows in all and any places.

Actual behavior

The proper picture only shows in the message list, as well as in the message header (where the participant chips are shown).

The placeholder shows in the Dashboard widgets for both Important mail and Unread mail:

And neither in the detail list of open messages:

Research direction

Start by comparing avatar rendering in the Dashboard's Important mail and Unread mail widgets and in the open-message detail list with the working message list and message-header participant chips. Trace how each view obtains the contact photo, then verify that the contact avatar appears in all reported locations.
