Description
⚠️ This issue respects the following points: ⚠️
- This is a bug, not a question or a configuration/webserver/proxy issue.
- This issue is not already reported on Github OR Nextcloud Community Forum (I've searched it).
- Nextcloud Server is up to date. See Maintenance and Release Schedule for supported versions.
- I agree to follow Nextcloud's Code of Conduct.
Bug description
We're running an Otel-collector alongside nextcloud that regularly scrapes the /metrics endpoint (forwarding it to our Grafana Mimir (Prometheus) instance).
When creating queries against nextcloud_files, I noticed that the sum is way below the amount of files we're actually having. After a bit of investigation, it seems that nextcloud_files is only counting user files. Most of our files are shared in team folders. So all these files are missing in the count.
Steps to reproduce
- Install and configure NextCloud (including OpenMetrics)
- Setup Team Folders
- Add files in regular user folders as well as Team Folders
- Query
/metrics(either manually or via Prometheus) - Notice that the sum of files is equal to the amount of files in user folders.
Expected behavior
The sum of files is equal to all files present on the NextCloud instance, irrespective of whether they are stored in user's home folders or Team Folders.

Additional info
Note that the number of files can also be compared to what NextCloud shows in Admin Settings -> System (/settings/admin/serverinfo).
In our case, the page reports a total of files of 237986 while the metric yields a sum of 46802.

Research direction
Start at the /metrics OpenMetrics endpoint in the groupfolders app and compare the nextcloud_files output with Admin Settings → System (/settings/admin/serverinfo) while reproducing the issue with Team Folders. Done means the metric includes files stored in Team Folders and matches the instance-wide file total.
