hlint gives a "Redundant bracket" suggestion for
func :: Int -> [Int]
func x = map ($x) [(*1),(*2),(*3)]
Replacing the ($x) with $x, as suggested, clearly breaks the code.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the reported Haskell example and confirm that replacing ($x) with $x breaks the expression. Trace the redundant-bracket suggestion responsible for this output, then add a regression test covering the example. Done means HLint no longer recommends the invalid replacement.
