Description

Your idea

My son is learning guitar, and I've laid out some scores for the two of us to play together using MuseScore and exported score videos, but he's regularly frustrated with songs he doesn't already know because when the playback transitions from one page to the next, it just cuts over instantly right at the time the notes are supposed to be played. There's no grace period to read the upcoming notes. It would be really helpful if it were possible to configure the video export to cut over to the next page early so that people playing along can see what's next before the exact moment it has to be played. I don't know exactly what shape this would take. I'm imagining a number of beats in advance to do the cut, a checkbox for a flag that shortens the lead time if there are multiple notes still on the current page (that aren't already playing at the specified cutover time), and an absolute minimum number of beats in advance to cut over even if there are still additional notes.

Switch to the next page [ 3 ] beats in advance
[x] Do not switch to the next page when there are still notes on the current page
`-> Switch to the next page [ 1 ] beats in advance even when there are still notes
Problem to be solved

Currently, videos cut from one page to the next instantaneously at the end of the final bar, at exactly the time the note on the next page needs to be played. This makes the exported videos frustrating for playing along if you aren't already familiar with the music.

Prior art

I don't know what software was used, but there are plenty of guitar tab playalong videos on YouTube that guide you gently through the song, highlighting the bar that's currently playing and scrolling to the next line in advance of the actual notes there to give you time to read them.
