Percussion clef writing unlinked to a pre-determined custom drumkit or .drm

Your idea

So in trying to create a part for a Cajone from a midi import, I tried to add a percussion clef to the part as it was. It was in bass cleff and would not let me change the clef till I changed the type of instrument for the staff. There is no staff designation for Cajone because it doesn't really have a standardized way of being written. Changing the type of staff all the notes where arranged on different lines and spaces and in some cases noteheads were changed. (drumset mode) Is it possible to simply change a cleff to a percussion cleff without moving the notes around or having to reassign them for the instruments that may not have a standardized way of notation. Thanks!

Problem to be solved

Notes alread in place would stay where they are and not be reassigned.

Prior art

I have not had this issue, but in Finale, the percussion clef could be inserted without changing positions of notes...except for the octave movement.

Additional context

I understand the reasons for having percussion staff assignments, but then not everyone notates drumset the same way. It seems it would be nice to have the suggestions for staff assignments that you have available, but make the percussion clefs "free spirits" that have no effect on the entered notes or for those, like me, who are writing for non-standardized notation instruments. There is also the argument of say a multi-percussion setup that may be a different set of instruments for each piece or a mixture of percussion and melodic instruments. Just a thought.
