Description

Your idea

Add further notes to a selected note not above the top note (which is non-modifiable default yet - see: https://handbook.musescore.org/basics/entering-notes-and-rests#adding-by-pitch-name) but also offer an below option. Will be relevant when e.g. using note-names on the computer keyboard as input method.

Problem to be solved

Better workflow: As I usually start with the melody tones first, any further notes added shall be inserted below this top note by default. Up to now, the default is non-modifiable, so any next note will be added above any notes already present at the cursor location. Thus, every single chord-note I added afterwards has to be manually shifted the octave lower afterwards. This could be made by shortcut, but however:

Just a tiny option within the preferences menu ('note input') would be sufficient at all:

Research direction

Start in MuseScore's Preferences under Note input and review the linked handbook section on adding notes by pitch name to understand the current ordering. Done means users can choose whether notes are added above or below the selected note by default, with the preference affecting keyboard note-name input.
