Integration with Audacity

Your idea

My idea is to open audio tracks in MuseScore showing their waveform and/or spectrogram (like in Audacity), but synchronizing it with all tempo changes in MuseScore live, so that not only the playback keeps in sync, but also the alignment of the waveform/spectrogram view onto the score, applying the correct stretches to each section according to the tempo changes in MU Studio. The audio track should appear in the mixer as well so the user can also set its playback volume, pan etc. If we could use a stretching tool on the audio track to automatically create tempo changes in the score would be fascinating too.

Audacity could also benefit with a possibility of adding MuseScore instrument tracks there with virtual instruments (sound fonts, Muse Sounds...), showing a track with a score or a future piano roll that should be implemented into MuseScore. This would make it a more complete and powerful DAW.

When both integrations are done, they should be able to save into a project format that can be opened from both apps, MU focusing on the score, Audacity focusing on tracks and audio.

Now that the Audacity Team is also the MuseScore team, it is a great time to focus on such an integration.

Prior art

Ardour has Midi tracks that can be edited in a piano roll with the possibility of editing Midi messages as well. Muse (DAW) can edit a piano roll track and a score. Blender has a great curve editor and A/V sync...
