Your idea
create for given chords, notes for the instruments. lets say you have a piano sketch and a string ensemble. then with a click of a button you have harmonized the piano part with the string section. the same for rythms. See the Video how Dorico solved it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU_OljxlTsY.
