Your idea
Sometimes, articulations and text that is attached to a note needs to be aligned to the same vertical height, rather than in relation to the respective notes:
In this example, I would expect the flageolet signs to be in line with each other:

Graphic design software offers align commands that move selected objects to the same vertical or horizontal level. This would make a rather obvious solution from a user's perspective.
