Description

mpv version and platform

mpv 0.30 / -git
Linux
Sway-git wlroots-git / Weston
Intel Gemini Lake
Linux 5.3.7 / Mesa 19.2.2

Reproduction steps

Run mpv --no-config --video-sync=display-resample --hwdec=vaapi http://www.oc-burner.de/ftp/Videos/juddertest/juddertest_60.mp4 on a Gemini Lake 60Hz system.

Expected behavior

There should be perfect presentation like with Sway / Weston on AMD Radeon or on Intel Xorg with xf86-video-intel.

Actual behavior

There are vsync jitter spikes every few seconds, causing mistimed frames (stutter).

Log file

output.txt

I assume that this is an issue of i915 kernel driver and needs to be reported to Intel.
Though it might be a good idea if an expert might share his/her view on this before.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the supplied mpv command on the stated Gemini Lake, Sway/Weston, Linux, and Mesa setup, then inspect output.txt for the timing data. Compare the behavior across the listed display environments to determine whether mpv or the i915 driver is responsible; the issue is resolved when the responsible component and a concrete next step are established.
