Description
Starting with setuptools 81 the use of pkg_resource is removed. Instructions on modernizing the code base to replace calls to pkg_resource can be found here:
https://setuptools.pypa.io/en/latest/pkg_resources.html
Basically:
Use of pkg_resources is deprecated in favor of importlib.resources, importlib.metadata and their backports (importlib_resources, importlib_metadata). Some useful APIs are also provided by packaging (e.g. requirements and version parsing). Users should refrain from new usage of pkg_resources and should work to port to importlib-based solutions.

Research direction
The issue names no files or tests. Start by searching the repository for pkg_resources, then consult the linked setuptools guidance and the importlib.resources and importlib.metadata documentation for each usage. Done means the deprecated calls are replaced throughout the codebase and the existing project checks still pass.
