Description
All stix1 packages (like mixbox and others) haven't been updated for the past 4/6 years.
This is an issue as newer versions of Python 3.12 have been deprecating packages (like distutils required by mixbox).
Would it make sense to remove the dependency to https://github.com/oasis-open/cti-stix-elevator (or split the packages) if possible?

Research direction
Start by mapping the packages that depend on the cti-stix-elevator dependency and identifying which functionality provides STIX1 support. Check the Python 3.12 compatibility concerns described in the issue, then determine whether removal or a package split is feasible. Done means the agreed STIX1 support and dependency scope has been removed or separated without disrupting the remaining package.
