Description

Please confirm these before moving forward
  • I have searched for my issue and not found a work-in-progress/duplicate/resolved issue.
  • I have not been informed if the issue is resolved in a preview version of the winget client.
Category of the issue

Installation issue.

Brief description of your issue

It's nice that winget doesn't uninstall the old version of Dell.DisplayManager manager anymore, (it's the one that my monitors work with, 2.0 doesn't,) but it's still really annoying that winget installs 2.0 every time I run winget upgrade --all even if I leave it installed. 1.0 and 2.0 are not even really the same program! Its FAQ says "In a multimonitor setup both DDM 1.x and DDM 2.0 can be installed on a computer simultaneously. However, it is highly recommended to uninstall Dell Display Manager 1.x and use only Dell Display Manager 2.0 if all your monitors are supported by Dell Display Manager 2.0."

Steps to reproduce
  1. Install Dell Display Manager 1.X
  2. Run winget upgrade --all
Actual behavior

winget installs Dell Display Manager 2.0 every time regardless of whether it's already installed

Expected behavior

I don't want or need Dell Display Manager 2.0 on my system

Research direction

Start by reviewing the linked winget upgrade logs and the Dell Display Manager package entries in this repository. Determine how versions 1.x and 2.0 are represented and what causes 2.0 to be selected by upgrade --all. Done means the two products can remain installed separately without the unwanted package being repeatedly selected.
