Description

Please confirm these before moving forward
  • I have searched for my issue and not found a work-in-progress/duplicate/resolved issue.
  • I have not been informed if the issue is resolved in a preview version of the winget client.
Category of the issue

Different install technology.

Brief description of your issue

Hi, App Installer is updated via the Microsoft Store. I am just seeking guidance on whether this manifest should be changed to type of msstore, or whether it should be left as winget, or both.

Thanks,
Edward

Steps to reproduce

Have an outdated version, winget will tell you to update with a url, but MS Store also shows an update required.

Actual behavior

Installing from URL, which can conflict if the MS Store is already installing.

Expected behavior

I think it should just be a msstore type.

Research direction

Start by locating the Microsoft.AppInstaller manifest in winget-pkgs and compare its current installer type with the Microsoft Store update behavior described here. Confirm the intended source and whether the manifest should remain winget, use msstore, or represent both; done means the repository guidance and manifest choice are unambiguous.
