Description

Please confirm these before moving forward
  • I have searched for my issue and not found a work-in-progress/duplicate/resolved issue.
  • I have not been informed if the issue is resolved in a preview version of the winget client.
Category of the issue

Installation issue.

Brief description of your issue

The system restarts without prompting, once the upgrade to 17.6.2 finishes.

I merely caught a glimpse of it finishing and then was met with the "progress screen" for the reboot.

Steps to reproduce
  1. winget upgrade -e --id Microsoft.VisualStudio.2022.Enterprise
  2. upgrade runs and succeeds (in my case from a 17.5.x to 17.6.2)
Actual behavior

Reboots without warning, prompt or any other way for the user to intervene

Expected behavior

I expected it not to reboot at all

Research direction

Start by reproducing the upgrade with winget upgrade -e --id Microsoft.VisualStudio.2022.Enterprise on the stated Windows environment. Review diagnostics under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\DiagOutputDir and determine whether the reboot is initiated by the package installation; done means the upgrade does not reboot without user control.
