File changes are not visible in Source Control or seach results

Ever since updating to the latest version search results do not reflect changes to files, i have to research to update the results list with accurate results this was automatic before. similarly the source control doesnt update with actual changes, it can show me no changes in any files at all, but when i look at the explorer there are definetly changes to the files, so i have to go to the source control tab and hit the refresh button or stage/unstage a file that is listed and poof suddenly it knows the current state.
