What you are seeing is an internal Electron/VS Code architecture leak, rather than an OS bug.What is actually happeningVS Code is built on Electron, which uses the Chromium engine underneath. To keep the UI fast, VS Code offloads work to separate background utility worker processes. In your case, the process handling the built-in Markdown Language Features extension is running inside a background NodeJS worker.When the VS Code compilation team builds the production version of VS Code, they intentionally pass DEBUG=release directly to their internal JavaScript toolchains and extension builds (like the Markdown server) to disable development logs, enable minification, and maximize performance.Why Delve is inheriting itNormally, an extension's environment is sandboxed. However, because of the way VS Code launches debugger sidecars (like Delve for Go), Delve is fork-spawned as a child process of the broad VS Code Extension Host layer.Instead of Delve cleanly inheriting just your system's global environment variables, it is accidentally picking up the internal DEBUG=release flag that the VS Code core engine injected into its extension worker runtime environment.
