Tab close icons are too large, need option to bring them in line with the text

I have updated VSC after a long time and noticed that the close icon for tabs now is really huge compared to the size of the text that describes the opened file.

Is there a way to control this, I have searched all over the internet and could not find it. That's why I decided to raise this issue here and hope that we get **a way to reduce that close icon down to the level of the tab caption text.**

If the reason why it was made so large is so that it would be easier to click, then adding some graphic distance between the close icon and its outer bounding client rectangle could still get the same functionality of user being able to click on a larger icon but with a smaller inner graphical symbol.

It would be useful to change the size of this from the current `✕` to an `×` like it was once.
