Git integration speed is abysmal

Type: Bug

Using git in workspace with more than 2 repositories that are not large in size, is an abysmal experience. I have turned off automated scanning, yet it produces little relief. How many developers use VS Code without git? This should be at the top of your list to fix, and finally get right.
