🌐 Request for Tamil (தமிழ்) Language Support in VS Code — for Global Tamil Speakers (ta)

I’d like to request the addition of Tamil (தமிழ்) language support to the list of localized UI languages in Visual Studio Code.

🌍 Why Tamil?

• Tamil is a classical language spoken by over 85 million people worldwide.
• It’s widely used not just in India (ta-IN), but also in Sri Lanka (ta-LK), Singapore, Malaysia, and large diaspora communities in Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
• Localizing VS Code into Tamil would break language barriers and empower native speakers globally to learn, code, and contribute with confidence.

🌐 Suggested Locale

• Language: Tamil (Global)
• Code: ta (generic) or ta-world (if custom locale tagging is possible)
• Intent: Inclusiveness for all dialects and regions, not just Indian Tamil.

🙋 Willing to Contribute

I (and others from the Tamil tech community) am happy to:

• Contribute high-quality translations.
• Review strings for accuracy across regional contexts.
• Engage the Tamil-speaking dev community for broader coverage and feedback.
