vscode-java-dependency doesn't install or setup correctly when listed in devcontainer.json

When I add vscjava.vscode-java-dependency to devcontainer.json's customizations.vscode.extensions, and after "Dev Containers: Rebuild Container" is executed, the vscode-java-dependency doesn't appear to be installed. I was expecting the Java Project tab to be present in Explorer, but it was not.

The extension can be manually installed from the extension tab, and the Java Project tab is populated correctly.

If this issue is actually a configuration problem on my part, or if there is a work around, I would greatly appreciate any advice on how the issue can be solved.

Start with the linked reproduction repository and compare its devcontainer.json with dev-container-build-log.txt. Check the extension installation during “Dev Containers: Rebuild Container” against the manual-installation details in README.md. Done means the extension is installed through customizations.vscode.extensions and the Java Project tab appears in Explorer.
