Description

See https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-cpptools/wiki/Attaching-debugger-to-cpptools-or-cpptools%E2%80%90srv .

The steps don't work. It just shows the blue message below and then the yellow message (and crash message) after disconnecting:

Previously there was some issue with debugging on Mac in regards to the handling of the stdin on the main thread, but that seems to have gotten fixed back in 1.2.0.

The workaround is to use

run the following in a terminal window to attach lldb: lldb -p
Then run the following command in lldb to output all stacks: bt all

Seems like a debugger bug? I was using 1.12.3 (unreleased, although the debugger should be the same as 1.12.2).

Research direction

Start with the linked “Attaching debugger to cpptools or cpptools-srv” wiki instructions and reproduce the failure on macOS. Compare the attach behavior with the documented lldb workaround and verify that disconnecting no longer produces the yellow crash message.
