Description
Feature Request
sourceFileMap is often a user or machine specific configuration for debugging, yet it can only be specified in .vscode/launch.json entries. This makes those configs not commitable to git, although they should be.

Research direction
Start by tracing how sourceFileMap is read from .vscode/launch.json entries and how VS Code extension configuration is defined. Determine where user- or machine-specific values could be configured without requiring launch.json changes. Done means sourceFileMap can be supplied outside committed launch configurations while preserving existing behavior.
